Last 25 May Goldie Nanwani,
in collaboration with the ¨Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de
Catalunya¨, came to our school INS Jaume Vicens Vives and told our students of
1BAT about what she calls the Bystander Revolution, simple acts of kindness,
courage, and inclusion anyone can use to take the power out of bullying.
Bullying is a worrying health problem that
concerns us all. Students learned about the difference between bullying and
teasing, the different types of bullying, the personality traits victims and
bullies usually have, the relationship with their families …But most
importantly we were compelled about the importance of stop being a bystander,
taking responsibility and standing up against bullying.
Goldie challenged us to take part in the ¨New Friend Challenge¨ to
promote inclusion, spread kindness, and take the power out of bullying, one new
friendship at a time. Students make a new friend, take a selfie together,
upload the photo to the social media and include a fun fact about their new
friend.
Students learned a great deal from this talk. Having Goldie was a great
pleasure for us all.

Some students thought the talk was really necessary because we all had
been in a bullying situation before, if not being the victim, one of the
bullies. Also we thought that it was very important to know the difference
between bullying and teasing, how to take part in a bullying situation and how
to take responsibility against the bully. Most of the class thought that this
talk must have been for the ESO students too. We thank Goldie’s work and we
hope to see her again with new bullying projects.

There are different types of bystanders, the ones that encourage the
bully, the ones that do nothing and the ones that stand up for the person that
is being bullied. The reasons that hold people back from helping are: they think
that they might be next, they are not friends with the victim therefore why
would they help, they want to fit in, and the last reason is that they think
that nobody will care.

Goldie Nanwany, as a coach and a writer, came today to talk about
bullying based on her personal experience. She is passionate about the cause
and wants to start a revolution. First of all, she explained the meaning of
teasing, as it is one of the first steps to bullying. We all accepted that we
tease each other constantly knowing that it is pleasant for all of us. With
some examples, we finally understood the difference between teasing and
bullying.
