One more year Jaume Vicens Vives
Secondary School is taking part in The Tenth English Competition for Catalan
Schools (THE FONIX 2017), which celebrates its 10th Anniversary. Students from
1ESO to 1BAT will participate. Why? Because this competition promotes
excellence and the use of English among students in general. Moreover ¨The
Fonix¨’s participation is free because it is financed by its organizers and
sponsors: International House, the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai, the
Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia, Cambridge University
Press, Netlanguages, Cambridge ESOL Examinations and El Corte Ingles.
¨THE FONIX 2017¨ will comprise
three knockout stages: A LOCAL STAGE (a test will be held at school between
12th of January and 15th February); a REGIONAL STAGE (held on Saturday 25th
February at midday at the UdG Campus Montilivi) and a FINAL STAGE (held Saturday
29th April in Barcelona)
The organisers will publish the
classification of the candidates in each category and the school they attend by
13th May. All students who qualified for the final stage will be formally
invited to the awards ceremony at which the diplomas and prizes will be
presented.
The objective of the competition is
to select a finalist from each of the first two stages: local, territorial and
the winners at the final stage.
The exercises in all the stages of
the competition will consist of writing tasks, each based on a different theme
(for example: geography, history or music) The written tasks contain a variety
of activities on vocabulary, reading and writing. In the final stage of the
competition, there will also be an oral section in the test.
